Cancer survivors, general public, past Olympic champions, corporate groups, and professional cyclists will take up the challenge on Saturday 5 August, 2006 at Centennial Park (Cannons Triangle) to raise money for the cancer unit at the Prince of Wales Hospital. It’s a fun day for everyone! And it’s for all ages. Whether you’re there to compete, cheer on cyclists, provide support for your corporate team, join in the fun ride, or just enjoy the atmosphere, it’s a day to mark in your calendar. Activities for children include straight line racing, skills riding, safety pit stops, and treasure hunts. First off the mark at 7.50am will be the Masters’ Challenge (including past Olympians) followed by Corporate Challenges, and State Championships. If you want to do more than cheer and still are a novice, than the Fun Ride is a perfect alternative - a chance to pedal for cancer from 2.00pm to 4.00pm. A lunch to launch the event will be held at Parliament House on Wednesday 2nd August. Additional tickets are required for the lunch. And its all for a good cause – helping cancer sufferers and raising money for the Oncology Department at The Prince of Wales Hospital. The event is in its third year and made possible by the principal sponsor, Trust Company of Australia. This year the Committee welcomed on board, Olympic cyclist, Ben Kersten as Ambassador and Peter Garrett MP as Patron. So grab your blanket, bring a picnic or enjoy an Aussie barbeque in the great outdoors and cheer on many enthusiastic cyclists who may be riding in memory of a loved one and pedalling to raise funds for cancer research.
Entry fees are $30 for a standard entry, $40 for late entry, and a team of three can register for only $90. All proceeds from the day go to supporting the Oncology Department at The Prince of Wales Hospital. The course will feature a 2.9 kilometre circuit closed to vehicular and pedestrian traffic Click here
